A Make & Mend Sunday Aboard USS Constitution
A make-and-mend Sunday aboard Constitution. A boatswain supervises a young seaman roving a replacement carronade training tackle as a marine looks on and the captain, in full-dress uniform, observes his quarterdeck. Originally, the ship's spar-deck bulwarks terminated at the caprail over the carronade ports, and the hammock nettings were situated as shown; as the ship is today, her bulwarks have been built higher and her nettings have been raised.
